This is really paint by numbers. It opens with a really disturbing alien invasion that in another film would be horrifying but here they downplay that and try to keep it upbeat and friendly so it's all set to a pop song. It just seems to make it more disturbing. They have to rush through all this set up to get to their story or an odd couple finding their respective homes. This film could have been anything really, but it's a misguided road trip movie with some pretty standard plot beats and no real surprises. The jokes are mediocre at best.

The animation is serviceable and I have to admit the fluidity of the aliens is impressive but they are just all so annoying that I don't care about any of them. I don't really like Jim Parsons's voice, so that's not a good start.

There's nothing really new or innovative here. I really feel like they told the wrong story here. Meh.
