Cowboy Bebop: The Movie

IMDB
First time viewed: No
Current Release: No
Watched With: Jordan

Going through the series again and up to where chronologically the film story takes place (according to most sources on the internet) so it was time for a watch. Like the rest of the series I only had vague memories of watching it through the first time but really am enjoying diving back into this world. It's like a funky version of Firefly, only made a decade before and without live action budget limitations for design and effects.

And if we are keeping with that analogy, then you'd think that the film is a bit like what Serenity is to that series. But not so, this is more like an extended episode that takes place in the middle of the series. Most of the stories in the show are pretty self contained and radically different in style anyway, part of the appeal, so I don't understand criticisms that the tone is so different from the series. It's got the action, the sci-fi, the wise-cracks, the cooler than cool characters, a central mystery and the plaintive existential drama, all elements used thought the show.

And like the show, awesome soundtrack. Watching it inbetween episodes like this, well, it fits right in. Can't wait to conclude the series again, such a cool world.
